ABOUT ME
I am a graduate student in the Earth to Oceans Research Group at Simon Fraser University studying the ecology and sustainability of the gooseneck barnacle harvest on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
For my MSc I will be working with T'aaq-wiihak Fisheries, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), and local harvesters to better understand aspects of this fishery. This small-scale sustainable fishery is co-managed by five Nuu-chah-nulth nations making up the T'aaq-wiihak Fisheries Management group and DFO and it is exclusively a First Nations fishery. Prior to my MSc work I worked with the Ucluelet Aquarium and more recently as the Executive Director of Strawberry Isle Marine Research Society in Tofino BC. My work focused on marine mapping and monitoring as well as educational programming. |
